I adore Larry Kramer. He scowled at me at MoMA once, and it was like a little gift from baby jesus. He is one of my idols and I know that I'm forever in his debt, but...
This open letter is pretty awesome.
I'm forever defending my generation, both in LGBT rights circles and in the arts as well. I like my generation. I'm proud of my generation.
Here's a stock photo of some millennials, crackers all.
The more I think about that Salon article, the more I think it was just wrong from every angle--Kramer's and and the reporter's.
There was a more intelligent conversation to be had in there that wasn't had.
I think every generation could be accused of apathy. Kramer's was handed some extraordinary circumstances, but that's like people who lived through WWII saying that the Boomers or Gen X are lazy . . .
I also think it's an American thing to be ignorant of history and young American gay kids aren't immune. Middle aged American gay people aren't immune. It happens.
I think Kramer has done great things, but he's a big drama queen and I don't think he's great at having any sort of real nuanced discussion about anything.
And I still think the GRINDR discussion was just painful and embarrassing to read.

Jesus, that's such a lame pic. They look like four losers who shop at Aeropostale and have their hair done by a guy who says "je ne sais quoi" a lot...
